I have been working with Josie more and more with her letters. She is easily learning her phonics and sight recognizing the letters. So I work with her on writing the letters. This was hard at first because she is a perfectionist. When we first started she would not look at me if I tried to correct her or show her how to do it even better. It was as if she felt like she was a failure. If I continued without recognizing how she was feeling she would run off into another room and hide her head. This made me a bit leary of homeschooling her. But I have learned (how ironic, eh?) that she needs a very gentle approach. I have to remind her that whenever people try something new it takes them a few times to get it just right. I tell her that I am proud of her to try a new letter we haven't done yet. But we need to try a few times. I tell her she can't give up she has to keep trying. So I point out the characteristics of a letter done correctly and ask her along the way if she sees what I am pointing out. Then she does very well.
So today, we went to a presentation on base done by Sesame Street and the USO. It was an Elmo show. But of course had Cookie Monster, Rosita, Grover, and Zoey. The kids had so much fun.
So we came home and I declared quiet time due to the fact that we are trying to really have some down time and get over our colds (Zachariah now has it too!). Josie kept telling me she wanted to do a lower case "b". She even acted as if she was drawing it in the air. I told her no that we were watching a letter video instead. I had to take a peice of paper away from her. What a bulldog! She wouldn't give up. She headed upstairs and told Dave, "Mom said I can do some coloring." Liar! So somehow she got a page of paper from my grocery list notepad. Dave came downstairs and told me that she said I said she could color. I explained I didn't. He was disappointed that she lied. A few minutes later she came down and showed me her letter. I said, "Yes, I know that you did that and you told Dad a lie." She said, "Well, I never give up!"
What a character!!! She says stuff so often I don't know how to react.
